Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the United States, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It originates as a harvest festival. Thanksgiving has been celebrated nationally on and off since 1789, with a proclamation by George Washington after a request by Congress. Thanksgiving became a federal holiday in 1863, during the American Civil War. Thanksgiving is regarded as being the beginning of the fall-winter holiday season, along with Christmas and the New Year, in American culture.

Day After Thanksgiving

The day after Thanksgiving is known as the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season. It may be linked together with the idea of Santa Claus parades. Parades celebrating Thanksgiving often include an appearance by Santa at the end of the parade, with the idea that ‘Santa has arrived’ or ‘Santa is just around the corner’ because Christmas is always the next major holiday following Thanksgiving.
