Commissioners:
Present: Chairman Walter J. Boatright, Commissioners Daniel B. Leeper, Steve W. Kelley, Stacy T. Johnson, and Barry V. Holloway.
Other Officials Present: Ted Selby, County Manager, and Emily Murphy, Assistant County Attorney.
Staff Present: Scott Herring, Public Works Director; Sam Young, Chief Fire/Rescue; and Connie Arthur, Deputy Clerk, representing the Clerk’s office.
Official Summary:
101223SS – 01:00 – Following roll call, Chairman Boatright called the emergency meeting to order to address the need to enact a burn ban due to existing drought conditions.
Chief Young came forward to describe areas of significant danger due to an increased drought level. He reviewed anticipated weather patterns and the potential consequences. He urged the Board to enact a burn ban.
The group discussed the time period, noting that the Fire Chief and County Manager will update the Chairman every seven days.
Motion: Declare an emergency, approve and authorize the
Chairman to sign Ordinance 2010-15, an Emergency
Ordinance Enacted Pursuant to Florida Statutes,
Section 125.66, Prohibiting Burning of Trash and
Yard Debris; Providing an Effective Date.
