A misdemeanor is a criminal offense, less serious than a felony and is usually punishable by fine, penalty, forfeiture or confinement in a county jail. This may include petit theft, some drug charges, violation of municipal and county ordinances. The maximum penalty for a misdemeanor offense can be up to one year in the county jail.
Misdemeanor Court is held on Monday and Tuesdays starting at 9:00 AM before the Honorable Judge Granville C. Burgess. Court Sessions are open to the public unless specifically closed by the Judge. Information concerning scheduled hearings can be obtained from the Clerk's Criminal Division at the number listed to the right.
Sealing and Expungement of Cases
The packet containing instructions and forms needed to file a petition to seal or expunge can be obtained from the Criminal Customer Service Department at the Nassau County Judicial Complex.
There will be a filing fee of $75.00 to the Florida Department Of Law Enforcement ( F.D.L.E ).
