Nassau County is made up of suburban and rural communities. Victims of domestic violence in Florida's rural communities are among the most isolated and endangered in our state and they face unique barriers due to their geographic isolation. Though the State of Florida has a population of approximately 14 million people with 38 statewide domestic violence centers they serve primarily urban areas. As a result, victims in rural areas often must travel more than 100 miles to reach shelter, advocacy and counseling services.

The mission of Micah's Place is to eliminate this barrier for the victims of domestic violence in Nassau County.

There is no fee for filing an injunction. If the court enters an injunction, the person you filed it against may be ordered to stay away from your residence and stay away from your workplace. After you file the paperwork, a judge will review your file, usually the same day. Based on the information you have provided, the judge will determine whether to sign a Temporary injunction for Protection. If this is granted, you will be given a hearing date within 15 days. The judge may also set a hearing without issuing an injunction or may deny the petition.
