A misdemeanor is a criminal offense, less serious than a felony and is usually punishable by fine, penalty, forfeiture or confinement in a county jail. This may include petit theft, some drug charges, violation of municipal and county ordinances. The maximum penalty for a misdemeanor offense can be up to one year in the county jail. Misdemeanor Court is held on Monday and Tuesdays starting at 9:00 AM before the Honorable Judge Granville C. Burgess. Court Sessions are open to the public unless specifically closed by the Judge.
