Nassau County to Host Fourth Judicial Circuit Teen Court Mock Trial Competition

Yulee, FL – February 22, 2010 – Nassau County Teen Court will host the 2010 Fourth Judicial Circuit Mock Trial Competition on Friday, February 26th at the Nassau County Judicial Annex from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Nassau County Teen Court will welcome teams from Duval and Clay counties for the annual contest and friendly courtroom rivalry. It will be a fun day of competition and trials for students ranging from 12 to 17 years of age.

The Fourth Judicial Circuit Teen Court Mock Trial Competition has been held for the past ten years. A team from Nassau County has participated in six of those events and hosted the 2008 competition. Nassau County’s team has won several awards and received recognition for its efforts.

The team coaches are attorney volunteers from each county. Local coaches are Laura Coggin of the State Attorney’s Office; Brian Morrissey and Chris Clayton of the Public Defender’s Office; and John Cascone, a local, private attorney.

Nassau County’s Teen Court program is managed by John A. Crawford, Clerk of the Circuit Court, and Charles Griffin serves as Teen Court Coordinator. The program is a collaborative effort between the Clerk’s Office, the Nassau County State Attorney’s Office, Nassau County Sheriff Tommy Seagraves, and the Nassau County Public Defender’s Office. Local attorneys volunteer their time as mentors and advisors to the teens throughout the year and court sessions are held twice a month.
